Wow, it's been a long time since I wrote on here...well I've been REALLY busy, mostly just with school and stuff but also with a movie that still hasn't gotten made (and another short film that might) and working on getting my license...I have my permit right now, I get my license in a few months...well, more soon...

Went with Ciara and saw 8 Mile tonight. Great movie. A little cliched, a little formulaic, but Eminem kicked some major ass in his role and Curtis Hanson was great as always in his directing. There were these two black girls a few seats to the side of me who constantly talked through the whole movie. At first I was frustrated and a little annoyed, but after awhile my anger passed and I was pretty amused with what they were saying...In the film, Eminem's character has a young sister that he cares for like a daughter. Living in inner city Detroit, he's constantly getting in fights, and when this happens he tries to shield the event from the young girl. At one point, a car pulls up outside of his house when he's walking his sister to the house, and he knows he's about to get jumped. Before he gets attacked, he sents her inside and tells her to lock the door. At this point, one of the two girls asked the other: "Why doesn't he want the girl to see him get in a fight?", to which the other replied, "I guess she'll get scared or somethin'". Oh my God, how stupid can you be... This movie suffers from the same thing Punch-Drunk Love did: You put a mainstream actor in a movie that's not really mainstream, and you confuse a lot of people. During PDL, there was lots of nervous laughter from Sandler fans that weren't sure whether they should be laughing at something. Likewise, with 8M, the drop-outs and 5th grade educations amongst the audience couldn't comprehend most of the aspects of the movie...They went because a popular rapper was in it...They probably don't even listen to what he's saying in his rhymes, or bother to take the time to listen...They probably just hear someone saying something fast, think that it's cool, and forget everything else. The freestyle scenes were the best thing about the movie...they flowed with an electricity unlike anything I've seen in a hip-hop film before. Those scenes alone make it worth watching.

Went to the Aberdeen homecoming game tonight. We lost 17-14. Then went with Jamie and rode around for awhile. Pretty cool. Hopefully I can go with Ciara tomorrow and see 8 Mile...

Went to Rachel's and watched In The Bedroom. Still the great, wonderful, perfect movie it always was...

Pretty eventful day today: Went to Ciara's at 8AM and stayed until 3:30; Yetkin came over there about 12:30 too. Then went to White Marsh with Jamie and saw Punch-Drunk Love again. And I will eventually write about PDL sometime in the near future...

Saw Punch-Drunk Love yesterday! It was amazing, but I'll write about it later - don't have time to write out all the things I wanna say right now.

Finally...after a year and a half of waiting...Punch-Drunk Love!! I'm finally gonna see it Saturday...the catch is, I have to travel about 30 mins away to get to the theater, the only theater in MD that's playing it (damned limited release). But it's cool 'cause it's Punch-Drunk Love!!

I'm doing a free trial of Netflix...it's pretty cool - I can rent on DVD a lot of stuff that Blockbuster doesn't even have at all, not even on VHS. Rented The Apartment, Melvin and Howard, and Bottle Rocket, but so far only The Apartment has arrived so far...the other two should get here soon.

Blockbuster sucks. How can you have 2 copies each of all of the Friday the 13th movies and not one copy of The Apartment?

Rented Silence of the Lambs this past weekend. It still hasn't lost any of its impact through the years. It was actually a better experience seeing it this time than it was the first time I saw it, because this time I had a great looking DVD transfer to watch, rather than an old, murky-looking VHS tape.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention: Went with Ciara to see Red Dragon on Saturday. It was an entertaining little flick. Although nothing could even come close to Silence of the Lambs, RD was thankfully better than the dreadful Hannibal. I think I'll rent SOTL this weekend, it's been awhile...

I was searching on the NPR website (that Jim told me about) the other day, and I found some interviews with - believe it or not - Freaks and Geeks creators and producers Judd Apatow and Paul Feig. Feig doesn't say much about F&G in his interview (he mostly talks about his new book - which seems pretty cool, by the way), but Apatow frequently talks about F&G, and even references some individual scenes! One of the scenes he mentions just happens to be one of my favorite of the whole series, and also from my favorite episode, so it was really cool to hear him talk about it. The scene is from the episode "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers". (The episode revolves around a Who concert that's coming to town, and there's some wonderful uses of Who music throughout the episode. This scene uses The Who's "I'm One".) I made a clip of the scene, and put his "introduction" before it. Until the DVDs finally come out, this is the closest thing we're going to have to a commentary. Download the intro and scene in question here.

A Swingers clip. (It's pretty long too, over 4 1/2 minutes...)
Sunday, September 22, 2002 07:25 p.m.
Went to Sheena's softball game today (and her team actually won...congrats Sheena).
Thursday, September 19, 2002 05:38 p.m.
The videos just keep comin'... Here's a clip from "Freak", a great one-man autobiographical stand-up show written by and starring John Leguizamo, and directed by Spike Lee.
Also, here's a clip from Swingers.
Remember, all the clips require Windows Media Player .
